Over 30 Years of Dance Training
Katie’s dance training began with Baltimore County Rec and Parks at ages 7 through 13 studying Ballet, Tap and Jazz. During her time at Mount de Sales Academy, she used her dance skills all four years as a cheerleader. During her college years, Katie rekindled her love of dance at UMBC. Here she studied Ballet and Modern Dance while also training and coaching at a local dance studio in the evenings. Katie continues to hone her dance skills and techniques by taking classes with local studios.
Over 15 years of Choreography Experience
In 2003, Katie began as an Assistant Choreographer on the musical Carousel and quickly learned how to use her dance skills in a whole new way. After assisting for a few years, she moved up to a full fledge choreographer with theater musicals. She has also served at times in the dual role of choreographer/director on the same show. She prides herself on taking people who have little to no dance training and showing them that anyone can dance with a little patience and practice! From 2017-2019 she transferred her years of experience with adults onto the teens in Mount St. Joseph High School’s production of Oliver followed by Footloose and West Side Story in the succeeding years. She most recently worked with Glenelg Country School’s Upperclassmen on their production of Guys and Dolls in February 2020. The joy of working with all of those teens was the inspiration for starting this business.
Over 20 years in Community Theatre
It was during her time at UMBC that she discovered the world of Community Theatre and found her home on the stage. Katie started as a Stage Manager and Lighting/Sound Technician and quickly worked her way onstage dancing in the ensemble. After a short time, she found herself getting cast in small supporting roles and by 23 she had her first leading role as Nellie in Rodgers and Hammerstein’s South Pacific. By 26, she discovered directing and choreography and has since directed several plays and musicals and has choreographed numerous others. Katie continues to perform in Community Theatres in and around Baltimore.
Katie started her Vocal Training at UMBC and has continued to study with local voice teachers. She has learned many techniques over the years from her teachers as well as from the Music Directors that she has worked with in Community Theatre.
Katie has a B.A. in Biopsychology with a minor in Biology from UMBC and has been working at Johns Hopkins for almost 15 years. She is currently a Sr. Administrative Assistant for the Department Director and Clinical Director of Allergy and Clinical Immunology at Bayview. Katie lives in Catonsville with her husband, daughter, and Puggle named Oscar. She is also an avid runner and enjoys participating in 5Ks and 10Ks each year.
